Discussion:
How do you clock tasks?

As asked in the second paragraph of a minor problem to get started, (https://github.com/matburt/mobileorg-android/issues/349#issuecomment-11924054) I'm a bit confused by how to perform time tracking:

"I see the 'Clock in' option, but I don't quite get it: I click it, then more than one minute later [in case you use org-clock-out-remove-zero-time] I look at it again, but the option still says 'Clock in', not 'Clock out', so I set the task to DONE and save, but no logbook drawer or time entry appears [I removed the MicroSD card and mounted it on my PC to verify this]. I see my properties folder with my time estimate and the ID I assigned, but no time tracking info. [..] I have configured Emacs on my PC to collect all clocking info in the logbook drawer in case that's relevant."

Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance.

---
Other things that surprise me is that when you edit a task I don't see anything in the last box (which is probably for payload), but when I press the pencil I see the info in it, yet as soon as I click the disk to save it's hidden again.
Furthermore, the MobileOrg Tasks widget just contains the constant string "WidgetText". Is that a work in progress or is something messed up? I'm on MobileOrg 0.9.7 on a Sony Xperia sola with Android 4.0.4, btw.

Best regards,
Rock

Addendum: So I see MobileOrg counting time as a background process (when I swipe from top downwards) and when I click it I get the choice of "Save", "Edit" or "Stop". When I hit "Edit", I can change the time, but afterwards in all of the three cases the same happens: The time is seemingly discarded - I can't find it anywhere and when I clock in again, it restarts at zero. While the first problem I faced (selecting index.org) was a simple usability issue, this seems more and more to be a full bug, doesn't it? How does time tracking work on your systems? Am I missing something?

I think I can confirm. I can clock in and get a persistent notification
entry that a mobileorg entry is being clocked, and the clocked time updates
in the notification entry. Clicking that notification results in the same
options stated by Rock (Edit, Save, Stop). Stop results in being taken to
the entry and there is no clock drawer or time/date information at all.

This is what stop is supposed to do. In retrospect, it should have been
called cancel. Save should insert the timestamp into the clocked nodes
payload, although it's hidden in the edit view until you press the edit
button. After pressing save, an edit node should be generated. Have you
tried synchronizing and checking if the clocked node contains a new
:LOGBOOK: entry?

I'm now on a Nexus 7 (1st version) with Android 4.2.2 and MobileOrg 0.9.13, but the same problem applies. A minimal example: I don't even synchronize with Emacs, but add a capture task named "Test". I save it, clock in and wait a minute. After this minute I select the timer entry as before and choose "Save", but the time is not added to the task (I see no new entries when I select it). And, also as before, if I clock in again, it starts from 0:00, not 0:01. Since I have that problem, John confirmed it and Steve asked for essentially the same thing in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mobileorg-android/7UVt8xj0Va4 without getting an answer, I'd say that clocking is still either broken or too unintuitive.

I would really appreciate some solution to this, because other than that I have been deeply impressed by MobileOrg. Thank you in advance.

All the best,
Rock

Clocking in works for me. I haven't checked to see if anything is visible
in mobile org itself but once I synchronise, the new clock entries appear
in my org files where they should (almost always; I have had one occasion
where the org-mobile-pull was unable to merge the entry for some unknown
reason).

The procedure I followed was: find a headline I wish to clock, press and
hold on it until it is editable, select "Clock in", do stuff, then pull
down the notification area and select the mobile org notification. Hit
Save. Eventually synchronise (manually or wait for automated
synchronisation).
